Meeting Cardamom and their magical garden wedding in Atzaro

What differentiates Ibiza as a wedding destination from other Mediterranean destinations?

In addition to Ibiza’s geographical location, being a central hub and event destination for global events with international accessibility, I would say that Ibiza is special in many ways. Culturally it is a blend of many nationalities of both residents and tourists, making it both welcoming and diverse for many couples from around the world, adaptable to all religions and cultures. Visually, you have a variety of venue types from rustic farmhouses, minimalistic villas, sea front restaurants and cosy countryside boutique hotels, providing venues for all levels and tastes. The exciting music and art scene also provides an eclectic back drop for weddings and events as well as the ever expanding and developing gastro scene in Ibiza, bringing more diverse food and drink to the island. In short for a little rock in the middle of the ocean, Ibiza has a lot to offer!

In the bridal sector, where is the client you work with the most from?

We have a joke in Cardamom, find a country we have not had a wedding client from yet! In addition, we have had clients from countries, I never knew existed, so you never stop learning or meeting people from different cultures which is a positive in this industry.

How have you experienced the consequences of the pandemic in Cardamon, how was the 2020 season and how is 2021 being?

I would say the Covid period in 2020 has been the hardest period in Cardamom’s lifespan. Not only were we faced with many repeatedly postponed events, some cancellations and absolute vapour to live on, the Spanish authorities, both local and national, provided ERTE or Furloughed our employees but provided nothing for autonomous business owners. We had to constantly think of new imaginative ways to keep a roof over our heads and the business running for potential new clients. Still, to this day, we are waiting for support whilst we see other countries such as the UK and Germany receiving immediate grants at the beginning of the pandemic. We think strong work ethics and ingenuity will get companies through these challenging times but not the government unfortunately.

What are the prospects for 2022?

The prospects for 2022 look great with regards to there being a lot of events happening. However, when you consider many of these events are passed down from postponements from 2020 and 2021 and the Ibiza wedding season is a maximum of 7 months of the year, the windows for new clients is constrained. That being said, to have events at all, is fantastic after the past 2 years and we feel positivity in the air! In addition to this, 2022 will be a landmark year for Cardamom as we approach our 20th anniversary and a very special year of our biggest and most exciting weddings and events to date, so watch out for our social media 🙂

What type of client do you think is the one who likes to choose Ibiza the most to organize his wedding?

Normally, I would say the Ibiza wedding clients are international, well travelled people who have a past connection with Ibiza where they fell in love with the island. However, after lockdown, many people who live in countries where the wedding restrictions are excessive such as Ireland and UK, they are looking abroad for their wedding venues where they can have larger groups, so we are experiencing growing demand as we emerge from the pandemic.

What would be your tips for a couple to choose their wedding planner agency well?

I would say look for experience, longevity on the island, so they have a proven track record and ask for past client referrals to make sure you are confident in their abilities and that they can suggest tried and tested quality suppliers. Look at their past events and wedding galleries to see their production standards and ask them to show you past examples of planning such as worksheets, call sheets and floor plans, then you will know you are in the right hands.

What experience do couples ask for the most?

I would say the biggest and most important decision couples need help with is, the venue search. With regards to budget, number of guests, party end time, event spaces, sea view or countryside ambience, accommodation or 1 day venues, these are all factors that need to be considered in their search for the perfect venue.

What is the craziest thing that they have asked you?

One of our first wedding clients years ago decided they did not want a wedding cake. Instead they opted for an bespoke ice luge we had created in Barcelona in the shape of their French bulldog where guests drank iced vodka from the penis!

Where do you think the wedding trends will go in 2022/2023? From speaking to current and new clients, I feel they are going “back to basics” and happy just to be able to share their special occasion with family and friends with good food and good service but most important on their agenda is to finally be able dance! Their expectations are less lavish and luxury in comparison to a few years ago but now more cosy, intimate and family oriented.

We know that you organize beautiful weddings and your most recent wedding, the big Italian wedding from Milan with 185 guests in the beautiful garden of Atzaró, an incredible job to produce a rustic garden/farm wedding but still maintaining elegance and sophistication, can you tell us how this experience was?

We started the planning process over 2 years ago, meeting Ginevra & Federico and family to find a venue that was basically a romantic, rustic farm setting, as Ginevra loves animals and nature, so we set out with this objective and researched all farms and horse ranches to find the best solution. Then I heard from a friend that one of our favourite venues, Hotel Agroturismo Atzaro was planning on building Ibiza’s largest organic vegetable farm, which was music to our ears. So we studied the plans of the potential farm and decided together to go for it! The rest of the planning was a family affair, headed by the bride, Ginevra and discussed with her parents along the way. The church was Santa Eulalia’s hill top Puig de Missa with panoramic views, a 10 minute drive to Atzaro and then after several tastings we had the menu and wines chosen, providing the foundations for the rest of the planning. For entertainment during dining, they wanted something to bring together the older and younger generations on the guest list, so we opted for Pianobar from Barcelona which is a combination of an old stand up wooden piano and a team of musicians, singers and cocktail makers to entertain the guests with old and new rock songs in English, Spanish and Italian which had them dancing between the tables. My favourite part of the wedding. All in all, the wedding was a great success and now I miss the family and our planning emails but we are still in touch for the future 🙂
